The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) is encouraging all health care professionals working in research, to engage the involvement of the public, whether as patients, carers, or interested parties. The UK has a proud tradition of altruism, and helping others. The Blood Transfusion and Organ Donation Services are examples of this altruism in action. Can this altruism be extended to taking part in research?
Research organisations have been split into organisations run for the health care industry, and organisations run by, or on behalf of, the lay public, and patients or carers.
